INTERGENERATIONAL

Co-housing makes life more enjoyable at every stage. Even though we may move differently, or enjoy different music, or have different life experiences, we can all benefit from intergenerational relationships. We design for accessibility, aging in place, and for dedicated areas for children and for young adults.

RTC appreciates, welcomes, and genuinely desires a wide range of thought, approach, belief, and experience. Our community is accepting of individuals of every race, ethnicity, age, gender, and sexual orientation, provided they are committed to participatory management of our village.

RTC encourages the expression of playfulness at all ages and stages of life. House concerts, games, holiday celebrations, dances and more are all regular parts of life at cooperatives and co-housing.

History teaches us that “co-housing” is only the latest iteration of the age-old human practice of people living together to share resources and create community.  In her excellent history of cooperatives in America, Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice, author Jessica Gordon Nembhard details how “in every period of American history, African Americans pooled resources to solve personal, family, social, political, and economic challenges.” Indeed, we don’t all need our own lawn mower!
